Monoclonal antibodies are highly specialized and -targeted therapeutics produced with the help of biotechnological processes. Unlike most chemically synthesized drugs, monoclonal antibodies are able to directly intervene in biological pathogenic and etiopathological mechanisms.
Biotest currently has three monoclonal antibodies in the product pipeline (BT-061, BT-062, BT-063). These antibodies were originally derived from the mouse and were engineered to resemble human antibodies before completion of the biotechnological production process (so-called humanization or chimerization). In this way, Biotest pursues the goal of further improving tolerability of the antibodies.
Preclinical experiments and initial clinical trials suggest promising therapeutic efficacy of the monoclonal antibodies developed by Biotest. The efficacy as well as the tolerability of the antibodies is currently under investigation in additional clinical trials.
